Not sure whether to hail this as a life-saving breakthrough, or be creeped out. A Canadian company has released eCAP, a “smart RFID closure for medication bottles.” The sensor-laden cap records exactly when a patient takes his meds, and can radio reminders if he or she forgets to pop a pill on time. A doctor or pharmacist can then download that info to make sure their medical charge is behaving. The eCAP is obviously a good thing for those who’d die without their meds, and who may lack the mental fortitude to remember a once-every-four-hours schedule. Still, the Big Brother vibe is tough to deny — “Take your soma, take your soma ”
