AJP D500E Gaming Notebook Reviewed

It might tell you a little about the hardcore gaming notebook market that two of the main competitors use the exact same chassis. Fortunately, though, the AJP D500E Gaming Notebook separates itself from Trusted Review’s currently-crowned “Speed King” (the Rock Xtreme! XTR-3.4EE) by adding in a higher-resolution screen (1,600 by 1,200 pixels native), among other tweaks. And despite some slightly-cut corners in the specs, the AJP D500E benchmarks just as well or better as the XTR-3.4EE where it matters: game framerates. In fact, except for some regular Windows benchmarks that it lags a little behind in (something that can probably be remedied with a little extra RAM), the £1,530 notebook looks like a steal.

Now let’s see how hard it is to get the D500E in the States. I’m fairly sure that Artistic Judaic Promotions isn’t the American counterpart to www.ajp.co.uk.

Update: Reader Joshua Goldman drives the “same chassis” point home when he reminds us that both Sager and Pro-Star make almost the same damn notebook.
