Although the good news of this little black slab of media center was spoken last week, it kept getting pushed back with all the E3 hoohah, but it definitely merits a mention. The DHS-300 is Alienware’s update of their EPC line, tossing away the Shuttle XPC case for this sleek anodized aluminum idol of A/V goodness, with a front LCD info panel, front-accessible ports, media card reader, and lots of room for upgrades, as well as a pretty capable desktop PC inside as well, based on the Intel D865PERLK motherboard. The idea, of course, is a do-all PC for your home theater setup, providing TiVoesque functions and more, and I have to say the DHS-300 certainly looks the part. With this and the upcoming X2 Graphics Array, Alienware is slowing turning from the company that makes extremely overpriced consumer hardware to the company that makes extremely overpriced consumer hardware that I really, really want.
