A wireless security camera that’s easy to set up and perfect for surveilling your home

Wireless outdoor cameras solve the biggest headache in home security. There’s no drilling into siding, no splicing into porch light wiring, and no professional installer coming out for an afternoon. The Blink Outdoor 4 setup takes about 20 minutes at the kitchen table. You drop the AA batteries into each camera, pair the Sync Module Core to your Wi-Fi network, walk through the Blink app setup, and mount the cameras wherever you want around your property.

Blink markets the Outdoor 4 as a two-year battery camera, and that number holds up for most homes. The camera stays in standby mode most of the day, waking only when the motion sensor detects movement in the frame. Constant traffic in front of the camera drains the batteries faster, but a normal front porch or backyard should hit the two-year mark on the same set of AAs. Dual-zone motion detection also splits the field of view into a near zone and a far zone, so you can flag someone walking up to your door without getting a notification every time a car drives past.

Video runs at 1080p HD with a 143-degree field of view, wider than the third-generation Outdoor 3. Infrared night vision handles low-light and full-dark conditions on the same camera. The Sync Module Core in the bundle acts as the hub for all five cameras, connecting to your WiFi and passing alerts through to the Blink app. Two-way audio also lets you talk to a delivery driver from your kitchen or scare off a raccoon from bed.

The Blink app is the main interface for the Outdoor 4. You get live view for any camera, motion alerts, arm/disarm toggles, and Alexa integration for voice control through an Echo Show or Echo Dot. Cloud storage requires a Blink Subscription Plus Plan, which is included free for 30 days but costs $30/year per camera or $100/year for unlimited cameras after that. Local storage on a USB drive is also possible with a Sync Module 2, sold separately.

The Outdoor 4 can handle the front door, a back door, a driveway, a side gate, and a garage, all on batteries that last 2 years each. At $105, down from $300, the bundle works out to about $21 per camera, with the Sync Module Core included.
