Amazon Prime subscribers will now get free same-day shipping on “over a million” items in 14 metropolitan areas. It’s practically Seamless for stuff.

Amazon’s been tinkering with same-day shipping for a while now, and the free same-day offering is the natural evolution, especially as Walmart just launched its own cut-rate Amazon Prime competitor.

There are a few caveats to the new service. To qualify for free shipping you’ve got to hit the cutoff time—usually noon—and your total order has to be more than $35. So it’s not like you’re going to be same-day shipping yourself masking tape or other small items. Or you can, but you’ll have to pay the standard $6 same-day rate for Prime subscribers. Oh yeah, Amazon Prime, you make my retail fantasies come true.
