New platforms mean cool new games! Crackdown 2, an extension of the popular Crackdown franchise for Xbox, is a WP7 tower defense game with a twist: you defend real locations using Bing Maps. It's Microsoft synergy at its finest!

What is it?

Crackdown 2, Windows Phone 7, $3. Says Jason:

Crackdown 2: Project Sunburst is, at its essence, a tower defense game. That means you set up guns, grenade launchers and lasers in order to stave off swarms of incoming enemies. C2PS is special not because it's shoehorned into the Crackdown universe—a great game and a tolerable sequel on the Xbox 360—but because you get to play in actual locations.

Using Bing Maps, the game allows you to use any satellite-mapping location—that means your home—as your base. It's just a small touch on top of an already-decent tower defense game, but it's a nifty one.

Who's it good for?

People with Windows Phone 7 phones! You guys aren't exactly swimming in apps just yet, and this is one of the big name titles for good reason. Also: people who want their tower defense games to be a little more like real life, or people who want their real life to be a little more like tower defense games.

Why's it better than alternatives?

There aren't oodles of alternatives to begin with, but Crackdown's support for Bing maps adds a nice OH MY GOD I'M FIGHTING TO PROTECT MY OWN NEIGHBORHOOD element to the game's action.

How could it be even better?

Jason says the controls could be a bit better—right now it's tough to select exactly what you want without scrolling around the map.

You can grab Crackdown 2 in the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace for $3.
