We heard noise about this earlier this morning and couldn’t confirm anything, but rumors abound that Apple has inked a deal with chipset vendor SigmaTel to provide a flash-based music player to launch this Christmas. I have serious doubts about this one for two reasons: Apple already has a low-capacity player in the mini and it would go against most of their previous statements about their philosophy in portable players; Apple also has previously done all their chipset work with PortalPlayer—it would be strange of them to work with anyone else at this point.
But whatevs—nothing but waiting and seeing for now.
