PortableMediaWorld has more information and better pictures of the Archos AV400. Apparently, the AV400 series is set to replace the AV300 series, using the case from the still-upcoming AV500 series, but without the touchscreen or PDA functions. Also, I’ve been informed that Archos always launches its products on QVC in the UK. Maybe home shopping isn’t as maligned in the UK as it is here.

Update: Reader Jody Gibbs writes: Just to give you a bit more info, according to Archos, QVCUK have got a two week exclusive deal on the 20GB version only. Then the same deal is going to be available for datamind.co.uk for a further two weeks, although they are already taking orders, so not so worldwide exclusive for QVCUK. And yes, QVCUK home shopping is just as bad as the USA with “wonder wash car cleaner” and cheap make your hands go green jewellery. They just got lucky on this one! After that they should be in the shops. Also, on the spec sheet on the the web site they will be releasing a 20, 40, 80 and a 100GB version. The odd thing is the 40 – 100Gb versions have bigger bulkier specs but do have a larger screen!
