Archos Gmini XS 200

When it comes to portable audio players, the difference between Apple and Archos is sort of like the difference between OSX and Linux. Both are powerful, but one hides or strips out its less-used features for the sake of approachability, while the other just lets it all hang out, even when it might make the initial experience a bit more confusing. I’m a huge fan of products from both companies, though, and this positive review of the Archos Gmini XS 200 just reinforces it—a 20GB player for the same price as a 5GB player from almost any other company, with a decently powerful but slightly confusing interface. The Archos Gmini series are the only music players I recommend to people besides Apple’s (with a passing grade of the Creative Zen Micro if people have a hard-on for it), but only if they’re willing to deal with a slightly fussier interface.
