Averatec added another low-end but interesting laptop to its lineup today, the 6200 Series, which along with all the standard flavor (including the rare but decent Athlon XP-M processor at the core), the biggest highlight of the “mobile theater” machine is the ability to play DVDs and CDs on the unit without actually powering up the entire machine, presumably saving battery life (and definitely saving hassle). Averatec claims about a 4.5-hour battery life when watching movies — if that pans out, that would be better than most stand-alone DVD players.
Prices start at around $1,200 via standard retail channels, or $1,249 straight from Averatec (the extra $50 is for bugging them, kid.)
