Looks like Best Buy is getting into the rebranding game, with plans to sell an in-store brand of LCD televisions, PCs, DVD players and more detailed in this article on CNet. The new brand will be known as “Insignia,” an inspired name if I’ve ever heard one (BADGE—A Name You Can Trust to Mean Something).
Best Buy isn’t assembling their own manufacturing process, of course, but instead rebranding low cost products from a variety of vendors—the same strategy Gateway, HP, Dell, Wal-Mart, your neighborhood deli, etc., have used to market and sell low-cost consumer electronics options.
One of the first products will be a 1,280 by 768 pixel 26-inch LCD television for $1,650. I look forward to the first review.
