It turns out that while the MakerBot Replicator can print pretty much anything your heart desires, it positively excels at creating Lego-esque zombie nightmare humanoid astronauts.

Whether that's worth $2000 to you depends on how much you like Lego, zombies, and astronauts. Which is to say, it's very, very worth it.

You can print at a higher resolution but it takes longer. Since they're usually printing mass amounts of stuff for the different fairs and what not, they just print it at the standard resolution to speed things up. I have print sculptures with my Thing-o-Matic that look great with lots of nice small detail.
