Canary Wireless Hotspotter

By

Reading time 1 minute

Canary Wireless’s new Digital Hotspotter looks like a more useful Wi-Fi location device than most, given that it has the ability to detect not only signal strength, but has an LCD read out to detail information like SSID and whether or not the hotspot is open. At $50, it’s not cheap, but if you’re the sort of person who has need to steal bandwidth from open nodes from time to time—and really, who isn’t?—then it might be worth the cash.

And since I’ve mysteriously become good at predicting how these products should evolve, I say the next iteration of this idea should be integrated into the outside shell of a laptop. Also, if the hotspot is at a coffee shop, I think I should get free coffee.
