Timothy over at Slashdot gives his impressions of the Canary Wireless Digital Hotspotter, the latest and greatest Wi-Fi detector on the market. And indeed, this thing floats like a canary and stings like a wireless—only the lack of a backlight keeps it from being the perfect Wi-Fi detector.
What it does better than any other product is tell whether or not the hotspot is open or closed (although it doesn’t detect MAC filtering). That means you have a reasonable chance of knowing you’ll be able to get online without breaking out your laptop or PDA. I’d say that’s worth $50. (Thanks, Scott!)
