Car Bluetooth Worm Resistance Testing

By

Reading time 1 minute

Is your Saab safe from Cabir? The folks at F-Secure are currently testing Bluetooth worms on cars in the wild, proving that as car PC parts get more sophisticated, you do not, under any circumstances, want Windows running in there. Imagine: Blaster hitting your Hummer’s open MSSQL port while you’re rolling at 60mph on the Beltway. Not a pretty image.

Ultimately, this should come to naught, but it’s an interesting exercise. Car Bluetooth is hopefully stripped down enough to fit on a few kilobytes of memory and its intelligent enough to repel unwanted data. However, those could be famous last words. Let’s watch as the F-Secure guys finish their tests, shall we?
