The Mist
Mike Flanagan revealed he’s begun writing a new film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Mist in a recent interview with Collider.
I’m writing it right now. I was working on it on the airplane here.
In response to a fan on Bluesky about the project (via Bloody-Disgusting), Flanagan answered:
The Mist is going to be great. If there wasn’t an excellent answer to why, I wouldn’t do it. I love Darabont’s film, and there’s zero point in remaking it. Which is why I’m going in a different direction. This isn’t a retread. The differences start page 1.
And FWIW, I got the same ‘but why’ comments for Haunting of Hill House, Bly Manor, House of Usher, Carrie, The Exorcist, even Ouija: Origin of Evil. Also got it for Life of Chuck. I’ve been lucky so far in my career to only take on projects I’m really excited about.

Scream 8
During a recent Q&A session at a 30th anniversary screening of Scream (via Entertainment Weekly), Matthew Lillard admitted he feels “embarrassed” to have returned for Scream 7 after the firing of Melissa Barrera.
I don’t know how else to do it. For me, I have queer kids. If I’m not standing up for queer kids or kids in the trans community then what the f–k am I doing? If I’m not standing up against ICE, then what the f–k am I doing?
I don’t think it’s easy all the time. Melissa Barrera, who’s a beautiful actor, was fired for what she said after the whole Palestinian — what started happening in Israel. It’s really fucking bullshit and really hard, and she’s on the right side of history. When they start coming after your job, sometimes things are worth it… When that happened to Melissa, the whole world didn’t pipe up. But she was a year early on ‘what the fuck’s going on?’ But the whole world should have popped up and said, ‘She’s right.’ And they didn’t. And that’s brutal.
I went back to do Scream, and I got called out. And I’m like, ‘Oh, fuck. That’s brutal.’ I feel bad about that. I feel ashamed about that. Because in that moment I was so excited to go back, I didn’t really think about Melissa and that journey. I didn’t say no. I’m embarrassed; that’s the truth… I blew that. I’m on the wrong side of history for that. I still like being in the movie [but] it may not have been the best idea.

Star Trek: Year One
During a recent interview with The Radio Times, Akiva Goldsman confirmed there’s little-to-no-chance of a Strange New Worlds spinoff detailing Captain Kirk’s first year on the Enterprise happening since “the sets are gone” and “everybody else has started to take other jobs.”
Nobody’s called, the sets are gone, everybody else has started to take other jobs. It’s never been officially yes, and it’s never been officially no. But I don’t see it happening.
Maybe somebody calls and says, ‘Hey, do a two-hour movie,’ or, ‘We want the show.’ Great! But there was a moment where it would have been the most expeditious, creatively and economically, to just continue because we had a lot of assets which are now no longer.
I would have loved to have done Year One and kept on with this group because they’re my cohort now. I feel familial with them, and I understand the Star Trek that we made together. And should [Paramount] call tomorrow and say, ‘Let’s do that,’ I’ll come running.
