I’m not sure what’s more intriguing about Coboc.com: the idea of people building a laptop suited to their exact needs or the site training them to do future upgrades themselves. Either way they seem to have learned from the mistakes of their custom hardware predecessors, taking steps to ensure compatibility between products and making the site intuitive enough to guide you to the calm white light of what you actually need rather than into the temptation of expensive and pretty. Wisely, no one’s talking about Coboc.com as ripe grounds for bargains, but if customers can come away with the right machine for the right job and the knowledge of how to take care of it themselves it’s probably worth the cost.
That’s the theory, at least. I haven’t used them. Neither have you, since they just opened.
