The Pentagon is planning on testing a new radio-monitoring technology next week called “Wolfpack,” designed to not only listen to enemy communications, but to jam and infiltrate enemy broadcasters and computers. The plan is to eventually strengthen the individual units so that they could be seeded from airplanes, hit the ground and find other Wolves, then start their work (using an inflatable antenna, no less).
Cool, but I still sort of get the feeling that much of this functionality could be emulated by a HAM radio operator with a $200 Radio Shack gift card. Of course, those would be more difficult to drop en masse out of planes.
