Community Works to Port Tungsten T5 Wi-Fi to Treo

Reader Brian MacFarland dropped a link over on Treo Central to our story about the new SD Wi-Fi card drivers for Palm’s Tungsten T5, where we made an off-hand comment about the need for those drivers on the Treo 650. And even though we were just one of many to report that news, I’d like to think of ourselves as the unwitting genesis of the community effort being generated on the Treo Central forums, where the same user ‘shadowmite’—the same person who unlocked the Bluetooth DUN functionality on the Sprint Treo—is working to unlock the T5 drivers to work on the Treo 650, as well. The community has all chipped in to buy shadowmite a Wi-Fi card and to host the drivers (which we’d be happy to do, too, if necessary), which could be on the cusp of being unlocked.

Will it happen? It’s hard to say, but I’ve got $5 toward buying shadowmite a card if they get that Paypal account set up.
