Dell PowerEdge 1855 Blade Server

Maybe some of you will care less about these new Dell PowerEdge 1855 Blade Servers, but there was a time when I was working as the World’s Worst Systems Administrator, and we had a bunch of Dell hardware around. It was surprisingly good, too—a definite cut above their consumer gear—and I’ve been looking forward to what they would do next. The reason these new PowerEdge machines are different, though, is that Dell has figured out a way to cram 60 seperate blades (a whole computer) into the rack space that traditionally could only hold 42. By standing them on edge and sliding in 10 to a ‘case,’ the 1855s sit in clusters that can be stacked 6 high. That’s a lot of computing power in a small space—remember, there are two Xeon processors inside every one of those blades.

I mean, look at all the fans on the back of that thing. How could you hate that?
