For $129, Dell Latitude D610 and Precision M20 notebooks can now be outfitted with shock resistant hard drives. A dampening material inside the hard drive enclosure provides added protection of up to 145 percent (how they came up with that figure is unclear, but the butterfingers here at Gizmodo are sold). This is in addition to the standard Strike Zone feature that protects against everyday bumps and bruises—such as the kind you would get while storming the gates of the Richmond International Raceway to get a $50 iBook. Come to think of it, that's just the sort of event to bring a shock-resistant notebook to.
