The new Taser X26 is all the rage in law enforcement nowadays, as police departments look to cut down on those, uh, pesky shootings of unarmed civilians. The X26 is 60 percent smaller than its predecessor, the M26, but still packs a 50,000-volt wallop when the darts enter a miscreant’s hindquarters. According to Sunday’s New York Times write-up, 170 new departments are joining the Taser family each month, and our soldiers in Iraq are packing them, too. But some of those new customers seem to be a wee bit overexcited about their new toys, like the Stuart, Florida, officers to the right. Rather than let a local reporter simply read the specs manual, they actually volunteered to test out a Taser on a chum. “For five seconds, he couldn’t do much but scream,” the reporter notes.
