Dyson Supersonic Nural Hair Dryer Returns to Record Low Early Ahead of the Mother’s Day Rush

You don't have to go to the salon every time you want a great blowout.

The Dyson Supersonic Nural Hair Dryer is the upgraded version of Dyson’s iconic Supersonic, with a network of sensors built into the dryer that adjust heat and airflow automatically based on what you’re doing with it. Most hair dryers blast the same heat at your scalp whether you’re holding it six inches away or pressed against your head, which is the kind of thing that fries scalps over time. The Nural reduces heat as it gets closer to your head and dials it back up as you move it farther away, all without you touching a button.

Right now on Amazon, the Dyson Supersonic Nural Hair Dryer is on sale for $350, marked down from the $450 list. That’s $100 or 22% off.

Scalp Protect Mode is the Supersonic’s headline function. It uses a Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor in the dryer’s barrel to measure the distance from the nozzle tip to your scalp, automatically adjusting the airflow temperature to 130°F regardless of the dryer’s position. The end cap at the back of the dryer displays an indicator that changes from yellow to orange to red as the nozzle temperature rises and falls.

Five accessories are included with the purchase of the Supersonic. All of them include magnetic ID tags, and the dryer knows which one has been selected by reading the tag when you connect the accessory. These include: Wave + Curl diffuser, Gentle Air Attachment, Styling Concentrator, Wide Tooth Comb & Fly Away Attachment. When selecting an attachment, a sensor located internally in the dryer determines which attachment was chosen. It then sets the desired heat and airflow to the previously applied settings using that same attachment. So, you don’t need to adjust the settings when switching from drying to styling.

Pause Detect is the third sensor-driven feature. A motion-sensing accelerometer in the body of the dryer notices when you set it down on the counter and automatically cuts the heat and reduces airflow. Pick it back up and it ramps right back to where it was. There’s a 240 millisecond delay programmed in so it doesn’t trigger every time you pause for a half-second mid-styling.

Underneath the smart features, the Nural keeps the things that made the original Supersonic the gold standard for hair dryers. The motor sits in the handle rather than the barrel, which makes the dryer noticeably lighter and better balanced than traditional designs. Drying happens through a high-velocity jet of air rather than extreme heat, faster and gentler on hair than the cheap dryers you find at drugstores.

The Nural normally lists for $450 to $500 depending on the color and bundle, so $350 lands well under what these typically sell for. For a hair dryer that’s almost always full price at Sephora and Ulta, getting one shipped from Amazon for $100 off is the kind of discount Dyson rarely allows.
