createdigitalmusic‘s Peter Kirn is back with more of what’s new and noteworthy from the world of music tech: this week, it’s USB DJing.
The audio interface may soon be a thing of the past. DJs can swap in two computers instead of two turntables using just USB: Numark’s new DJ mixers have USB ports as well as audio for direct computer connections. That means you could have as many as four virtual decks running simultaneously—two on each laptop—or mix computers and CD/vinyl decks. The best feature, though, is that you can simultaneously record your finished mix via USB, so it’s easier than ever to post your sets online the next day. Add the Numark mixers to USB/FireWire mixers from Alesis and Mackie and USB microphones from the likes of Blue, and nearly everything now connects directly to your computer.
