Trusted Reviews take out the Elonex Soliton Safari semi-ruggedized laptop for a spin and it looks like quite an interesting machine—not one I’d buy, mind you, but one with an intriguing mid-way point between heavy, bulky, fully-ruggedized battle laptops and more attractive, luggable units. The Safari is Mil-Spec 810E—that means you can drop it two or three feet to the ground and not worry about it breaking—and includes things like a spill-proof keyboard that make it just as suitable for road warriors as it does for real warriors. And I’m guessing that the simplified “semi” process is a lot faster than a “full” ruggedization process, because the internal specs of the Safari are fairly peppy for a laptop of this type.
It only has a 1,024 x 768 15-inch screen, though, which is sort of a killer for me. Good concept, though.
