The essay contest is still open. We've received quite a few entries. Some of them have touched me to the core of my being and some are kind of psychosexual, so there are a lot of folks out there who should probably stay away from the nitrous. A recap of the rules:

This is an essay contest. Each essay should be no more than 500 words and be in English. The topic is quite simple: Which gadget would you give your grandma and why? Does grandma deserve this Xtatix Pocket Candy to listen to Glen Miller or Cream? Does she deserve a PSP and Coded Arms? Or does she need something else, like a Prius or an Estes rocket or a Mac Mini? Extra points for humor, wit, and a description of how dear old gram is still caught in the 1950s and what she has to say about these new-fangled devices.

Send essays to tips at gizmodo dot com with the subject GRANDMA ESSAY. Failure to follow these rules will result in public ridicule. We will post the top essays next Monday, August 1st, and allow Gizmodo readers to vote on the best essay. The winner will receive the prize, the beautiful Pocket Candy, directly from Xtatix.
