Eye-Fi’s magical wireless memory cards beam photos from your camera to your computer over Wi-Fi, but soon they’ll be able to transfer images from your camera to your mobile device as well—except without requiring a regular Wi-Fi network.
The feature which’ll allow this quick and easy transfer process is called Direct Mode—which basically uses an ad-hoc connection instead of relying on your proximity to a regular Wi-Fi network—and it will be available as a free upgrade to all Eye-Fi X2 cards later in 2011. [Eye-Fi]
