Fujitsu-Siemens Celsius H230 Graphics Workstation Laptop

Fujitsu-Siemens—and that still sounds more like a finishing move than a company—are rolling out the Celsius H230 this March in a bid to glaze your orbs. The workstation laptop promises the latest from the names you trust to make Half Life 2 look all pretty, including Intel’s 915PM Express chipset, Pentium M processor and Centrino Mobile Technology. So fast enough, but not the fastest possible. But!

The Celsius comes standard with the new ATI Mobility FireGL V5000 3D graphics accelerator, complete with 256 MB of graphic memory. Loosely translated, you’ll be ahead of the gaming pack for a least a couple of weeks and be ready to do some heavy-duty non-gaming 3D rendering. The idea is that professional designers to be able to CAD on the way to work, but yes, your DVD of The Wizard will look awesome, too.

The fifteen inch display is a bit small for my taste, but the high-resolution UXGA display, cribbed from IPS (in-plane switching) technology, might make up for it. Honor demands I complain about a lack of standard Bluetooth or Wi-Fi support, but the promise of six hours of battery life and enough modular bays to include my coffee maker and fridge, I think I’ll let them slide with a warning. For now. Look for the Celsius at next month’s CeBIT show in Hanover, if you happen to be in the neighborhood.
