The chipset inside the iPod (and many other music portables) is built by PortalPlayer, who has just released details today about their next generation chip—the one that may power the next iPods. Now bear in mind as you read the specs on MobileMag, PortalPlayer tends to put the kitchen sink in their chipsets, only to have Apple pick and choose the features they think are important. So when you see things like a potential 54 hour battery life for a future iPod mini, take it with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, if even half of these features find their way into any new music player, next Christmas’s models are going to be really nice.
