85 percent of surveyed workers are bringing a laptop, PDA, cellphone, or other gadget with them on vacation this year, according to a report commissioned by Avaya; a number that high sounds impressive and daunting at first, until you consider the ‘cellphone’ option. Who wouldn’t take their cellphone with them on a trip, even if often turned off? Still, it reflects the flip side of our connected lifestyles, where trying to squeeze in a few extra minutes of work while at home or commuting opens up an avenue for work to find us even when we don’t want it to. Take a tip from me: even if the boss can reach you after five glasses of Kentucky straight bourbon, they won’t get anything out of the conversation, and you’ll have forgotten it by morning.
