Gates: Windows Tablet to Be Same Price as XP Pro

So what makes Tablet PCs more expensive than their laptop counterparts? Some say it’s the OS, while others claim it’s the extra hardware. Either way, it’s about to get cheaper, as Bill Gates himself has announced that the price premium on Windows XP Tablet PC Edition — which he says was only about $15 greater than regular XP in the first place — will be dropped to fall in line with everything else. Which means that companies like Acer, who have blamed the high cost of the OS as the reason its tablets cost 200 to 300 dollars than otherwise equivalent laptops, will basically have to put up or shut up, considering they themselves quoted the hardware costs as being only about 30 to 60 dollars more. Who’s lying? Who cares, as long as the prices drop.
