A few weeks ago we unsuccessfully tried to take advantage of the new number portability rules to transfer the 212 number we have for our Vonage line to our cellphone (it’s not possible because of how Vonage, our VoIP carrier, got the 212 number in the first place). Now we’re hearing that Cingular, Sprint, Nextel, and T-Mobile have a limited number of 212 cellphone numbers available, tempting us to give up our current number and take a stab at getting one with the coveted prefix.
