Hard-Drive Breakthrough

Seagate claims to have developed a new technique for magnetic data storage called heat-assisting magnetic recording that gets around the brilliantly named superparamagnetic limit, which is the problem of data bits being so small that they become magnetically unstable. It means that hard drives could eventually increase in density from 50 gigabytes per square inch to 50 terabytes per square inch.
