BusinessWeek details HP’s Personal Media Drive (PMD) concept, essentially their rumblings about moving into the large, personal hard drive space in which Mirra and other companies currently reside. Since the PMD is really just a big ol’ 500GB hard drive, it’s admirable that writer Alex Salkever can get as much mileage out of HP casual musings, but chasing down a few possible future storage technology tangents is always a good way to pad out a story. Way to milk ’em, champ.
Also, if I’m not mistaken, these pics from DigiTimes (including this one showing what I think is the PMD along with some other concept products) are from the same Windows Hardware Engineering conference where HP showcased the PMD, as well as that knobby ‘Troy’ personal communications console (which doesn’t look half as bad integrated into a desktop environment as it did with the laptop).
