iAudio M5, G3, 5

Hey, folks. Sorry about the long post gap—I felt pretty awful yesterday and stayed out late last night like a real person. I promise I’ll never let it happen again.

Now that we’re made up and nuzzling, would you like to know about a new line of portable audio gear from iAudio? It’s a bit confusing, I think, because of the way they name all their gear, but we’ll get it sussed out quick enough after the jump.

The first two units are the iAudio 5 and the iAudio G3, flash players both. The main difference between the two seems to be the batteries—the 5 takes AAA cells, while the G3 uses a AA. Neither look terribly stimulating, but should be otherwise solid players as iAudio bits seem to be, on the whole. You can except the G3 Real Soon Now, while the 5 is rumored to come out in November.

Now the iAudio M5… this is something. It looks a lot like an M3 with a color screen humped onto the front of it. Perhaps a little awkwardly shaped, but if it is the same height and length as the M3 it will still be really small. And by moving the controls back onto the unit instead of the remote they’re probably both easier to use and more appealing to the average buyer.

The iAudio is rumored to be just a 20GB to start, but I’m sure they’ll bump up to 40 soon enough. I do wonder, though, what the video will be like. I’m sort of still loving the Archos Gmini 400 just because it’s really handy to be able to play video from time to time—without hauling around a massive player to do it.
