Immortaliz 3D Glass Portraits

By

Reading time 1 minute

Not quite a hologram, but not quite rubbish, either, a British service called ‘Immortaliz’ overcomes their hideous name to provide 3Dish portraits ‘carved’ by lasers into blocks of glass. While they couch what seems like a pretty interesting process in a bunch of “Time Matrix” and “encounters with ancestors” hyperbole, Pocket-Link gave it a whirl and seemed fairly transfixed by the whole idea, which even has the foresight to give you the ‘negative’ data on CDR, so you can come back and have new copies made. Unfortunately, this is exactly the sort of thing that doesn’t come across very well on the internet, so you U.K. readers will just have to try it for yourself.

Update: A couple of readers, like Neil Greisman and Dave Weinstein, for instance, wrote in to say they’ve gotten Immortaliz portraits in the U.S. just fine, at a mall and Epcot, respectively. Even better, they said they were actually pretty cool.
