Internet on Paper: More Than Human by Ramez Naam

Reading time 1 minute

More Than Human is an exciting, if soberly-written book that looks at the current state of human self-enhancement and questions why we, as a species, might be content with simple mortality. It also has an awful cover. Author Ramez Naam looks at the current state of bioengineering, genetic manipulation, and human<->machine interfaces that are doing amazing things to human ability—think faster, better, stronger, etc.—but does so with almost none of the proselytizing that makes typical Extropian dogma so hard to digest. Naam also focuses primarily on feats of science already being performed, which goes much farther to convince that we may live to see a future where we gain control over our own health and mortality than any dozen half-baked cyberpunk stories could.
