Apple surprised a lot of us by finally switching up the iPhone. It’s on its 18th generation and each model has only had marginal improvements over the previous. This is still true of the iPhone 18 but alongside it, the tech company decided to release an additional model that really shakes things up. The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first ever foldable iPhone. The phone opens up along a vertical hinge like a book to reveal a second, much larger screen inside. This screen is just a touch smaller than the iPad Mini and many folks are comparing it to having a small tablet in your pocket. That sure sounds convenient but the whole phone costs $1,999—and that’s just the starting price. If you really want the convenience of an iPad Mini then you’re probably better off just getting an iPad Mini.
Right now, Amazon has the iPad Mini on sale for 7% off. This ends up taking the price down by $39 so instead of paying $599, you’d only be paying $560. If you’re still happy with your current iPhone, then just paying about a fourth of the price of the iPhone Duo is probably a better bet for you then fully upgrading to Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
Why iPad Mini
This particular configuration of the iPad Mini is equipped with the A17 Pro chipset. It’s the model that came out in October 2024, just over two years ago. The processor is able to deliver powerful performance and allows for multiple apps to be running simultaneously with smooth responsiveness. The model that is on sale contains 128GB of storage. If you need more than that, unfortunately the 256GB and 512GB configurations are not discounted at the moment. You’d be paying either $674 for the 256GB model or $874 for the 512GB model.
With an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display, everything on screen looks gorgeous—popping with True Tone and P3 wide color. The screen also has ultralow reflectivity, making it possible to use the iPad Mini in bright settings.
The iPad Mini comes equipped with a 12MP Wide back camera which can be used for capturing photos, recording 4K videos, or scanning documents. The front-facing 12MP Ultra Wide camera supports Center Stage which keeps the subject centered during video conferencing and selfies.
