Relative unknown manufacturer JaceTech offers this strange DDP-1500, a 20GB hard disk-based portable media player that is most notable for its built-in Wi-Fi and the ability to decode a wide range of file formats. Despite the kooky form-factor (why bother with a clam shell that doesn’t protect the screen?) built-in 802.11b is pretty hot, although I can’t help but be a little bit bummed that it isn’t 802.11g—b just doesn’t have enough bandwidth to stream high-quality video. Of course, depending on how fast the processor inside the DDP-1500 is, it probably would choke on higher resolution formats anyway.
DAPreview has details on this place and two more odd bird Asian PMPs (and have since Monday! How’d we miss that?)
