While it’s not quite as traumatic as the single-use circumcision tool we talked about last year, the Joey Umbilical Safety System looks just as useful. In many developing nations, umbilical cords are cut/gnawed the old-fashioned way, causing entertaining but potentially AIDSy blood splatters for everyone involved. The Joey covers the snip completely, and even keeps about an inch of cord around for later testing. Cute and doesn’t make me want to retch and pass out—sounds like a winner.
