JVC GY-HD100U: 3CCD 24P for Under $10k

Although it’s not officially confirmed, it looks like JVC’s new camcorder will be a three 1/3-inch CCD unit called the GY-HD100U, that will be available for less than $10,000. Sony launched the 3 CCD HDR-FX1 last year (3 CCDs are better than one by at least two), but issues with the way it handled its 24 frames-per-second progressive recording have made some question its worth. The JVC will be able to do 24P progressive scan recording at 720 lines of resolution, and will be relatively affordable, to boot.

It looks like the “ProHD” capable recorder (that’s what they’re calling their new system) will be shown off at the NAB show in April. (Thanks, Betty!)
