It might be the best shelf system ever, but the JVC HX-GD8 is more notable for its tragic apportioning of speakers and drivers, making the unit look like a inflated cartoon insect or the hindquarters of an interstellar battleship. And hey, it plays DVDs! Really, even though a lot of shelf systems end up being good deals for the money, this one is imposing. If I were a purchaser, I would be afraid to walk naked in front of it, fearing it might accidentally activate and send a sonic blast that would shear my tiny penis right off.
