Microsoft Licenses Exchange Client for Symbian

Last year during the launch of the Treo 650, one of the overlooked bits of news was that the mail client would work with Microsoft Exchange Server (well, not totally overlooked, but you know what I mean). Now Microsoft has announced a deal to license a similar function to Symbian-powered smartphones, which is generally seen as a move to fight off RIM’s BlackBerry mail service, which is moving out onto non-RIM phones like the Siemens SK65. Good news if you’ve got a business that runs an Exchange server, but not all that interesting if you’re just a shlub like me with a great big IMAP account. Expect to see Symbian phones with the functionality next year.
