Montego Portable Video Player

The Montego Portable Media Player looks sort of hot—and by ‘looks’ I mean ‘is ugly but is full of features.’ The default model has a 20GB hard drive, but you can upgrade up to an 80GB version—not a bad idea considering the Montego can play not only music but MPEG4 video. Even better, it has enough processing power to play video with resolutions of up to 720 x 480 (the native rez of DVDs). That’s important because many of the cheaper players can’t, so when they try to play back the video files that work just fine on your powerful PC, they tend to choke and sputter.

The Montego has a nice dock, too, with not only USB 2.0 connection but Ethernet, as well, so you can do streaming from your PC to the Montego, which can then output to your TV or stereo. All in all it looks like a cool device, especially for $450. If the screen quality is decent, they may have a winner.
