The world of designer phones just got a little pinker with the announcement of the Baby Phat by pot-smoking model-cum-psuedodesigner Kimora Lee Simmons. The Phat, based on Motorola’s i830, is a painful mess of faux feminine frailty, criss-crossed by pleated reminders of the day bed your uncle first touched you on. Not that I think phones must all dress in high-tech whiz-bang blue LEDs or whatevs, far from it—if it had Hello Kitty on it I’d feel differently, because I’m a total sell-out. At any rate, it’s not only ‘quilted’ pink, but diamond encrusted and, as such, breaks the $500 barrier (another reminder of your innocence lost), hitting a nigh-on-insane price point of $699. The Ferrari phone was cooler looking, and it is a travesty of brand-diluting proportion.
