Motorola Confirms 32MB of RAM in MPx

What is up with the chintzy memory allocations in smartphones these days? First the Treo 650 ships with only 32MB of RAM and now Pocket PC Thoughts has confirmed that Motorola’s MPx will only launch with 32MB as well. There’s something sketchy about Motorola’s behavior around the MPx. They’ve been showing the handset for upwards of a year, dealing with multiple delays (I was supposed to have a “prototype” unit in my hands almost 3 months ago), and making all sorts of strange maneuvers to hobble what was presumably going to be a flagship product.

On the plus side (if you live in Southeast Asia), Motorola told Jason Dunn that the MPx should launch before the end of the year in… whatever country they’re going to release it in Asia and that North America should see a launch in Q1 2005. Whatever. I’ve pretty much already moved my lust onto the imaginary MPx II, which has plenty of ram and steals some of the technology from the Razr to make to whole get-up about half as thick.
