Mysterious, tiny human figures march across a wall

This crowd of people is part of a swarm sculpture that consists of hundreds of tiny, detailed human figures scattered across several walls. They look like people crossing the street in a city during rush hour, or perhaps a human exodus of shrink ray victims. Let’s take a closer look.

These strange little figures are made of oil paint, emulsion, pigments, ash, and mud. They’re the work of South African artist Clinton De Menezes, who says:

Working in a variety of media and materials, my current work is an attempt to conjure up ‘landscapes’ that are positioned somewhere between utopian dreamscapes and fractured dystopian geographies.

See more of De Menezes’ work on his site. (Spotted on Illusion 360)
