The Third Hotel
Deadline reports Michelle Garza Cervera is attached to direct a film adaptation of Laura van den Berg‘s psychological horror-mystery novel, The Third Hotel. Written for the screen by Isa Mazzei, the story concerns Clare, “a recent widow who travels to Latin America weeks after her husband Richard’s mysterious death, driven by the need to understand her role in his early passing. Lost in a new, unfamiliar city, she spots a man in the street, and it’s not just someone who looks like Richard, it’s him in the flesh. What begins as a skeptical pursuit of Richard’s double quickly devolves into an all-consuming obsession, unraveling Clare’s grip on reality and pulling her into a liminal nightmare where she is suspended between the living and the dead.”
Experiment 11
According to Deadline, production is expected to begin next month in Canada on Experiment 11, a new horror film from Scare Tactics creator Kevin Healy and The Blair Witch Project‘s Eduardo Sanchez and Gregg Hale. Though the article doesn’t reveal the film’s cast, the story “will be set inside a mysterious medical research facility where a group of participants are forced into a rapidly escalating experiment with consequences tied to the future of humanity.”

Deadline also confirms production has officially begun on Panos Cosmatos’s latest movie, Flesh of the Gods. Starring Kristen Stewart, Wagner Moura, Esmé Creed-Miles, Roland Møller, and Alba Baptista, the vampire thriller follows Raoul and Alex, “a married couple in glittering ’80s L.A. who descend each evening from their luxury skyscraper condo and head into an electric nighttime realm. When they cross paths with the mysterious and enigmatic Nameless and her hard-partying crew, Raoul and Alex are seduced into a glamorous, surrealistic world of hedonism, thrills and violence.”
The Buried Giant
In a recent interview with Deadline, Guillermo del Toro said his animated adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s fantasy novel, The Buried Giant, will be a “fascinatingly difficult stop-motion movie for adults” produced “without any concession to a family audience.”
If you do a live action Pinocchio and all of a sudden a puppet walks through it becomes uncanny valley, which is a horrible thing that doesn’t belong in the same world. Just like if you do a live action movie about an old couple crossing a landscape full of trolls and fairies, and there are special effects and actors. I want all the creatures to be of the same material. It’s gonna take us years. And it’s incredibly difficult.
