DAPreview has information about the latest player from open-source darling Neuros. Called the PocketPlayer, the 5GB video-capable machine will feature Neuros’s typical hack-friendly open firmware, as well as the hardware power to play back MPEG4 video (although only at 10 frames per second). In addition, it’ll play just about any music that you can throw at it, including AAC, WMA (DRM), and OGG Vorbis. According to the rep they spoke to at CES, the PocketPlayer won’t be ready until Q3 at the soonest. That’s probably too late to make a big market splash, but that’s not what Neuros is about, anyway.
