Phonemag has details of the Nextlink ‘Spider’ platform, a Bluetooth-based wireless stereo and cellphone headset. The prototype they showed PhoneMag is integrated into a pair of glasses (with built-in MP3 player controls), but there’s no reason Nextlink couldn’t build a similar system into a more traditional set of headphones.
Nextlink doesn’t expect any products from the Spider platform to hit the market until late summer, so I’m sure they’ll have plenty of time to chew on new ideas in the interim. Also, it’s convenient that chunky glasses are hep again, since that’ll make it easier for eyewear makers to hide batteries and controls without resorting to goofy-looking pods.
